Matilija Poppies
Paper-thin and Wrinkled, the newborn faces of Matilija poppies walcome visitors
to Santa Barbara's largest public park. Built on the site of an old dump, Elings Park was
once a dream in the heart of jeweler Jerry Harwin, who was brave enough to ask the Fleischmann
Foundation for more than $1 million to strt the park and he got it! Origionally Las Positas Park, the non-
profit and privately funded recreational paradise spans 230 acres and features two soccer fields,
three baseball diamonds, hiking trails, a hill for paragliding, a bicycle racing track, al large hill-top
amphitheater, a playground, picnic areas and the beautiful Veterans Memorial Walk and Terrace
of Remembrance.
